In London in 1904, neighbours begin to suspect that a very strange man calling himself Dr. Fell may in fact be the infamous Jack the Ripper.

When Yumiko Tsuyama, a potter by profession, comes inquiring about a room for rent in an old mansion overlooking Osaka, she finds a bizarre collection of characters already living there. The unlikely leader of this menagerie is Yoda Goro, who speaks four languages fluently, is an expert in cabbage rolls, and has written how-to books encompassing every aspect of human existence.

Mario and Clara, his pregnant girlfriend, try to find a new apartment to settle in as soon as possible, so they go to visit one in a distant neighborhood that seems abandoned. Once there, things are not as they expected.

Concert promoter Nick Loomis is sent to Sydney by his ex father-in-law and boss Garth Kingswood, and asked to deliver a briefcase to a foreigner. When the man is killed in the airport, Loomis ends up entangled in corporate spying and is forced to fight for his life with the help of Terry McKenna, a woman from Austin working for the Sydney Opera House.
